Introducing Hacienda La Papaya from Ecuador, a landmark addition to our offerings and our first ever Ecuadorian coffee. This Typica variety, grown at an impressive 2100 meters above sea level, is the brainchild of Juan Peña. His dedication over the last decade has culminated in a coffee that is an embodiment of excellence and expertise. This fully washed gem reflects the pristine environment of Saraguro, Loja, where it's cultivated. Its flavor profile? Think floral elegance and complex notes of intensely sweet nectar, rooibos tea, lychee jelly, nectarine, and papaya. 

Having been born in Ecuador, this coffee is deeply personal to me (Gabe). It's a nod to my roots, a country brimming with rich culture and a profound coffee tradition. Those moments growing up— exploring Ecuador's lush landscapes with my abuelito, left a lasting impact. They nurtured a profound appreciation for the land and its welcoming people. This coffee represents a piece of home, a bridge to memories with my grandfather, and a symbol of my personal and professional journey inspired by his influence.

Farm & Process

Hacienda La Papaya, a picturesque farm in Saraguro, Loja, Ecuador, cultivates the Typica variety since 2009. At elevations between 1900-2100 meters, the farm's sandy-clay loam soil contributes to the distinct quality of its fully washed coffee.

The beans undergo a 15-hour controlled fermentation and an 11-day drying process, renowned for producing a clean and delicate flavor. 

Since its establishment in 2009, the farm has focused on high-quality processes, managed by skilled agronomists and utilizing advanced technology like drip irrigation for its 35,000 plants. The farm's vision extends to research and innovation in partnership with Cuenca’s University, functioning as both a production and research facility. Its community impact is notable, providing employment opportunities and influencing regional coffee quality. Hacienda La Papaya maintains strict quality control from harvest to packaging, with Cafexporto lab ensuring the highest standards before shipment.
