The altitude at Finca La Misericordia is no joke. 1,350 meters above sea level, tucked into the highlands of Jinotega. But it was here in Gainesville, a couple weeks ago, where the story behind the farm really took shape for us.
Rebecca and her mother, Maria, the duo behind Stemma Craft Coffee, stopped by to hand-deliver this coffee and share what it means to them. Stemma translates to “family tree” and their company is just that. A living tribute to their father, Alvaro Blandon. A fourth-generation coffee producer in Nicaragua, Alvaro poured his life into the farm before passing away, just before Stemma could fully take flight. What Rebecca and Maria have built in his absence is a continuation of that legacy: rooted in faith, family, and the kind of hard work that spans generations.
Finca La Misericordia, which means “mercy,” is more than a name. As they told us, the fact that the farm is thriving, that the coffee has won awards, that the Stemma project is real. It’s all, to them, a reflection of God’s mercy. That perspective resonated with us deeply. Our own story is built on the sacrifices of those who came before us. We know what it feels like to be one link in a much longer chain.
This lot is a washed Castillo, processed to bring out its clarity and floral character. It’s elegant, clean, and brewed with the filter drinker in mind.
But for us, it carries something heavier too.
A shared sense of gratitude.
A shared belief that we’re here, and able to serve, because of mercy.
