Finca La Siberia sits high in the Apaneca-Ilamatepec mountain range in Santa Ana, El Salvador. Owned by Rafael Enrique Silva Hoff, the farm has been in the Silva family for over six generations, with coffee growing practices passed down from father to son since the 1800s.
The farm was first planted in 1870 by Fabio Morán and Epifanio Silva, who named it La Siberia because of its cold, chaotic weather and difficult access. In those early years, coffee had to be carried down the mountain by mule, one bag at a time. That same high elevation and unique microclimate still shape the farm today, with coffee ripening later here than on many of the surrounding farms.
La Siberia has long been known for its Red Bourbon, but over time Rafael and the team have continued planting and testing new varieties across the estate, including Pacamara, Yellow Caturra, Java, SL-34, Batian, Geisha, and their own Goliath Bourbon. That spirit of careful experimentation has helped make La Siberia one of El Salvador’s most recognized single estates, with seven Cup of Excellence awards across 2005, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2021, 2022, and 2026.
Big thanks to Sicafe Coffee and the Silva family for sharing this coffee with us.
