By the time cherry from Gure Kesso made it to Telila this season, it had already been sorted once. Telila’s team sorted it again. Carefully, intentionally, and separately.

This is our first time offering a coffee from Gure Kesso, a kebele in Gera, Jimma. And while we don’t have a direct connection to the producers or the station, our importing partner Osito does. They’ve been working with Mike Mamo, owner of Telila and a partner at Osito, since the beginning. Through them, we’ve come to learn more about the care and traceability that defines this project.

Telila began operations in 2019 and has already earned a reputation for clean coffees and thoughtful practices. Unlike many washing stations that group cherry by process or delivery site, Telila also separates by kebele. This lot from Gure Kesso is their first from this community, and we’re glad to be among the first to share it.

The coffee is predominantly JARC 74112, a variety selected in the 1970s by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center for its resilience in the field. It was grown at elevations between 2,100 and 2,150 meters and processed as a traditional washed coffee, then slowly dried on raised beds.

The result is a coffee with clarity and vibrancy. The structured acidity reminds us of fresh orange peel, while the aromatics lean toward lemongrass and passion fruit. As it cools, there is a soft, cooling finish- something like mint, delicate yet lasting.
