This coffee comes from Osmer Cruz Guerrero, a producer in La Naranja, a small community tucked into the mountains of Cajamarca, Peru. Noe had the chance to visit La Naranja alongside Yellow Rooster Coffee and Alpes Andinos, driving nearly three hours from Jaén before reaching the community by way of narrow dirt roads, steep climbs, and the kind of mountain views that make you understand why coffees from this region can be so special.
Osmer is still relatively new to coffee production, having started in 2020 after working as a mechanic. His farm, El Cedrillo, is named after the cedarwood trees that grow on the land. Though his plants are still young, what stood out immediately was his energy. He loves growing coffee, he’s deeply invested in the work, and he’s approaching the farm with a freshness and focus that feels really exciting.
Since 2021, Osmer has been a member of Alpes Andinos, an association working with producers in the region to improve quality, increase productivity, and create better long-term opportunities for coffee families. Through the association, producers receive training and access to better pricing for coffees that meet higher quality standards.
This lot is a washed Bourbon grown at 1,850 meters above sea level. On the cupping table, it stood out as sweet, bright, and clean. In the cup, we’re tasting orange creamsicle, strawberry, and milk chocolate.
Thank you to Yellow Rooster Coffee and Alpes Andinos for connecting us with Osmer’s work.
