Llano Encino, located in Oaxaca’s Sierra Norte region, is a prime coffee-growing area celebrated for its high elevations, rich volcanic soils, and vibrant coffee culture. This region produces exceptional coffee with sweet, floral, and chocolate notes, shaped by its unique terroir and the dedication of its indigenous farming communities, such as the Mazatec.
At the heart of this story is Nabor Martínez, a 23-year-old coffee producer who has been cultivating coffee for the last seven years. Nabor works alongside his family, continuing the legacy of his father while bringing fresh energy to their farming practices. Over the past decade, the family has renewed and replanted three hectares of coffee trees, some as old as 80 years. On their five separate plots, they grow Caturra, Mundo Novo, Sarchimor, and Typica varieties, processed using the washed method to highlight the coffee’s clarity and brightness.
