Nestled near the Guatemalan border, Amatenango de la Frontera in Chiapas is home to Rony Ordóñez Mazariegos and his family’s 26-hectare farm. Rony has been farming coffee for over 25 years, focusing on quality and cultivating more than a dozen coffee varieties.
Despite the challenges posed by increasing gang violence in the region, Rony and his brothers Edilzar and Meynor remain dedicated to their work. They’ve invested in making the farm more appealing for workers by offering better wages, free weekly meals, and mechanization to ease labor demands.
Their efforts reflect a deep commitment to maintaining the family’s coffee-growing legacy in a region known for its fertile soils and rich coffee culture.
